Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation-History of Greek fishery. From 1830 to 1910.

History of Greek fishery. From 1830 to 1910.

The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation organizes a series of lectures aimed at presenting basic aspects of the history of fishing in Greece from 1830 to 1910. Although the Greek area is surrounded by sea, the history of fishing has not been the subject of systematic study by the humanities and remains, to a large extent, an unknown chapter to this day.

In a series of three lectures, Mr. Nikos Alevyzakis, Att. PhD in History of the Ionian University, he will analyze the issue starting from fishing vessels and fishing potential, will proceed to highlight the relationship of fisheries with merchant shipping, sponge fishing and fish farming, while the dialogue of our country with the European scientific area on relevant issues will be presented. Comments on the topics will be made by Mrs. Gelina Harlafti, Professor of Maritime History at the University of Crete, Director of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies – FORTH Dimitris Dimitropoulos, Historian, Research Director of the Neohellenic Research Section of the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
