The Book and Archival materials Conservation Laboratory is part of the Foundation’s Historical Library and was established in 2015, with the purpose of maintaining, preserving, restoring, safeguarding and protecting its precious collections.

It is staffed by specialized scientific personel, fully equipped with the required infrastructure and applies modern scientific conservation methods, in accordance with highest protocols and international standards.

Interventional Conservation and Restoration

The invasive conservation and restoration of the old and rare material of the Historical Library’s collections is achieved through the documentation of the state of preservation of the material, the design of an appropriate conservation programme and its execution, for restoring the material’s damages.

Preventive Conservation

Preventive conservation actions in the storage and display areas of the collections include overview and sampling of the material, ensuring its proper use and storage, constant monitoring of the environmental conditions and applying the appropriate protocols.

Exhibitions

The staff of the laboratory actively participates in setting up of exhibitions, through the preparation of the material, and its safe handling and support in the permanent and temporary exhibitions, held within the Foundation’s premises or elsewhere.

Community interaction

The laboratory organizes and participates in activities of interaction with the public, providing advice on preventive conservation and proper storage of book and archival material. At the same time, it consistently participates in the celebration of the European Days of Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage with digital and live events.
