The library of Professor Werner Fuchs

The library of Werner Fuchs was incorporated into the Foundation in 2021. It consists of approximately 3,600 items, with primary themes covering ancient Greek and Roman archaeology and art. It includes editions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection contains part of the library of the archaeologist Reinhard Herbig, as well as books that belonged to the notable 19th-century archaeologists Gustav Herbig and Rudolf Pagenstecher.

Biography

Werner Fuchs (1927-2016) was a German archaeologist and professor of archaeology. He studied classics, archaeology, and the history of ancient art and philosophy at the Universities of Leipzig and Tübingen, and he received his doctorate from Tübingen in 1953. From 1954 to 1957, he participated in the excavations of Ancient Olympia. He worked at the German Archaeological Institutes in Tübingen, Rome, and Athens. He authored monographs and articles and was the founder and director of the journal ‘Boreas’. He was a professor at the University of Münster. He also taught at major European and American universities.
