Giorgos N. Karter (1928-2012) was a poet, journalist, and essayist. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts and was a graduate of the Drama School of the National Theatre. He also studied radio and television directing in Vienna and Rome. From 1953, he worked in radio and from 1960 in television. He inaugurated Greek state television and served as the head of television at ERT1 and the first head of television-radio at ERT2. He was the president of the artistic committee of the National Theatre and the Society of Greek Writers, and the general secretary of the Association of Greek Theatre and Music Critics. He was also a contributor to the magazine “Eklogi” and others. He used the pseudonyms Akroatis, Pan, and Alex. Pizanis. His poetry has a social content but also shows influences from surrealism, particularly in the use of bold symbolism. He began his publishing career at the age of 17 and published 45 books by the end of his life, including poetry, essays, theatre criticism, and some of the earliest works on radio and television criticism. He was honored with numerous awards for his intellectual and poetic work.
