She was born in Piraeus, the daughter of lawyer, politician, and historian Ioannis Mitropoulos, and sister of the ceramic artist and painter Katia Mitropoulou. She studied at the Law School of the University of Athens but interrupted her studies in her third year. She made her literary debut in 1955 by publishing prose works in the newspaper “Vradini”. In 1963, she wrote the lyrics for the songs on the album “O Dromos” by Manos Loizos. After the declaration of the dictatorship, she went into self-exile in Paris, but personal reasons forced her to return to Athens, where she was arrested due to her political involvement with the Left. During her lifetime, she published 46 books: 21 novels, 12 short story collections, 3 novellas, one chronicle, 8 plays, and a selection of articles she published in the newspaper “Ethnos,” where she maintained a column for twelve years. She wrote lyrics for more than 25 songs, which were set to music by well-known composers such as Manos Loizos, Loukianos Kilaidonis, Nikos Danikas, Christos Nikolopoulos, and others. Her work has been the subject of studies and is taught in Greek and foreign universities. She was a member of the Society of Greek Writers and the Society of Greek Playwrights.
