The library was transferred to the Foundation in 2014 through a generous donation from Amy Mims herself and includes more than 1,000 Greek and foreign works on various subjects. The majority of the collection is dedicated to literature, with subcategories of Greek and foreign prose and poetry, as well as literary studies and reviews. To a lesser extent, the collection also includes works on theater and the arts. The collection is complemented by the rich archival material of Amy Mims and her husband, Minos Argyrakis.

Biography

Amy Mims is an American translator and writer of Irish descent. She studied Ancient Greek Literature and History at Harvard and Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature at Oxford. Since 1960, when she began living and collaborating with Minos Argyrakis, she has resided and worked in Greece. She translated into English significant works of modern Greek literature, including works by Kazantzakis and Ritsos. She published five bilingual poetry collections and two essay collections. She collaborated with prominent Greek artists such as Yiannis Tsarouchis, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, and the father of shadow theater, Sotiris Spatharis. She often uses the Greek surname “Silveridi,” which was symbolically given to her by Danae Stratigopoulou.
