The library of journalist Georgios Panagiotou

The library was acquired by the Foundation in 2019 through the generous donation of his daughter. It consists of approximately 2,600 items and includes minutes of the parliament and other parliamentary materials, bibliographies and bibliographic bulletins, literature as well as local history of Volos and the area of Magnesia in general. The library is accompanied by part of his archive.

Biography

Georgios Panagiotou (1943-2019) was a journalist and poet. He was born in Tsagarada, Magnesia. He studied Philology as well as Economic and Political Sciences at the University of Thessaloniki. He did postgraduate studies in Sociolinguistics and Bibliography. He worked as a journalist and archivist at the Lambrakis Press Group. From 1976 to 1987, he published the newsletter “Parliamentary Chronicles” and was a coordinator of the documentation center “Hellenic Archive”. He collaborated with newspapers and magazines, publishing hundreds of studies and reviews on subjects regarding history, literature, theater and cinema. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Authors’s Society.
