With great pleasure, we announce that the digital application of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation map-inc won first prize in the international competition Digital Humanities Awards 2023, in the category “Best DH Data Visualization”!
The competition included contestants from 28 countries and representatives from cultural and educational institutions, such as Princeton University.
This distinction represents the recognition, by both Greek and international audiences, of a pioneering digital application tracking the dispersion of 15th-century books preserved in libraries throughout Greece. In an accessible and user-friendly manner, map-inc visualizes the results of extensive research into the oldest printed treasures held in Greek libraries.
Drawing primarily from its valuable collections and in collaboration with other institutions and libraries across the country, the Foundation invests in new technologies and offers original and user-friendly digital applications to both Greek and global audiences, showcasing the culture and history of Greece, for educational and entertaining purposes.
This award follows a series of important distinctions for the digital applications of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation: In 2017 the ToposText application won the same competition, while in 2022 TravellersMap and TravelTrails: Expeditions and Explorations in the Eastern Mediterranean, 1500-1830, won first place in the categories of “Best DH Data Visualization” and “Best DH Dataset”respectively
