The library of historian Panagiotis Michailaris

The library was donated to the Foundation in 2019 through his generous contribution. It consists of approximately 5,000 items, with the main themes being history, politics, and religion, and it includes a large number of offprints.

Biography

Panagiotis Michailaris (born 1948) is a historian, researcher, and Emeritus Director of Research at the Institute of Neohellenic Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. He was born in Mytilene and studied in the Department of History and Archaeology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in 1994. From 1976 to 1978, he continued his research at the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice. From 1978 to 2016, he worked at the Institute of Neohellenic Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, progressing from Junior Researcher (1990), Assistant Researcher (1995), Principal Researcher (1998), to Director of Research (2003). From 2003 to 2016, he taught History at the Hellenic Open University. He has participated in numerous scientific conferences and research missions and has published books and studies, primarily focusing on institutions, Venetian rule, and local history. He is a member of scientific societies and the editorial board of the journal “O Eranistis” of the Society for the Study of the Modern Greek Enlightenment.
