The leading seascape painter "returned" to his hometown.

Works by our most emblematic seascape painter, Konstantinos Volanakis, are hosted for the first time in the artist’s hometown, Heraklion, Crete, as part of the exhibition entitled Konstantinos Volanakis – waterline.

These are 52 unique oil paintings by Konstantinos Volanakis, from the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, exhibited in St. Mark’s Basilica.  The exhibition is an important artistic event for Heraklion and was inaugurated by the Mayor of Heraklion, Alexis Kalokerinos, on the afternoon of Friday, July 19, in the presence of collector Panos Laskaridis who was in Heraklion for this purpose, and a large number of people.

The exhibition production was prepared for months, with the intensive work of the heads and all the executives of the Deputy Mayor of Culture of Heraklion and the Municipal Art Gallery of Heraklion, in collaboration with the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation and external partners. It also includes two tactile paintings by Volanakis that with advanced digital technology through an application from the innovative digital Art Gallery developed by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, offer visually impaired people the opportunity to enjoy the works in Braille.
