The language of music, music in language
The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation invites you to a special string concert, which will take place under the auspices of the Austrian Embassy on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 19:00, at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus.
In this event, violin virtuosos from the Hellenic-Austrian String Music Academy Strings in Motion and young artists-participants of the Ismeni Carter National Violin Competition of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation will join forces under the supervision and guidance of violinist and pedagogue Christos Kanettis, professor of the Mozarteum University Salzburg as well as the National Music College in Innsbruck, Austria.
15 young musicians from Greece and abroad, as well as 2 actors, come together in order to share the cultural influences of their countries, with the common goal being the need for communication, as expressed through the compositions of important musicians and poets. The result is a fascinatingly diverse yet deeply harmonious dialogue between these two leading forms of artistic creation.
In this celebratory exploration of “sound” in music and text, our main focus is the violin, which frames the poetic discourse in Greek, English and German, drawing inspiration from it and feeding it with new stimuli. It is in this setting that the most unexpected and dynamic encounters take place: Kostis Palamas’ “O Dodecalogos tou Gyftou” (Logos Θ), a hymn to the violin, permeates the entire event, highlighting W. A. Mozart’s emblematic compositions and illuminating the field in which the young participants of the National Violin Competition unfold their talents.
Rainer Maria Rilke crosses paths with Antonio Vivaldi and Yannis Xenakis, while the contemporary composer Jason Tzanakos interacts with Dionysios Solomos, the inspirer of his composition “Shadows of a Dream”. The dark romanticism of Ernest Chausson becomes a fertile ground for the poetic explorations of the Foundation’s friend and fellow traveller Kiki Dimoula, while the words of Louis Du Rieux and the music of Robert Schumann in the homologous work “Fairy Tale Images” become our guides to the magical worlds of Giuseppe Tartini, Fritz Kreisler, Astor Piazzolla & Camille Saint Saens. These are just some of the surprises that this unique musical performance has in store for us.
